Guilmartin, Dipiro & Sokolowski Expands Presence in Middlesex County, Merge with Local CPA Firm of Goundrey & Company

 

The New Year brings new beginnings for two long established Middletown businesses as firms come together and Thomas E. Goundrey, CPA, joins GDS as Partner

 

Middletown, CT (January 25, 2015) -- Guilmartin, DiPiro & Sokolowski, LLC (GDS) is pleased to announce a merger incorporating longtime Middletown accounting firm Goundrey & Company, CPAs into the practice located at 505 Main Street. Effective January 15, 2015, Thomas E. Goundrey, CPA, was named as a Partner at GDS.

Mr. Goundrey has more than 40 years of experience in public accounting. Prior to joining GDS, he was a sole practitioner continuing the tradition of excellence in the family-owned firm established by his father, G. Eugene Goundrey, in 1946. Tom Goundrey’s expertise encompasses a number of aspects of accountancy, including federal and multi-state taxation for business and individuals with a specialty in estate, trust and gift taxes. He also has considerable experience in estate and trust execution and administration, probate and conservatorship.

Mr. Goundrey is a member of several professional organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA). He is an active corporator of Liberty Bank and member of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Throughout his career, Mr. Goundrey has held numerous leadership positions in community organizations, including: chairman and director of Community Action for Greater Middletown; corporator of Middlesex Hospital, serving on the finance committee; and chairman, director and treasurer of Northern Middlesex YMCA; as well as the Long Rivers Council, Boy Scouts, Exchange Club and more.

A lifelong resident of Middletown, Mr. Goundrey is a cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame, with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration. He and his wife of 45 years, Kay, are communicants of Saint John Church in Middletown. They have three children and four grandchildren.
